Obama to win
My pick for winner of the 2012 US Presidential Election is Barack Obama: an incumbent who did just enough during a lacklustre term, and had no screw ups - compared to the unknown (literally) of what Romney, the challenger, proposes.
Republicans to dominate (just) the House and Congress.
Nothing unusual to happen in the 13 Governor roles.
I called the Presidential result right, and the House result, but was wrong on the Senate, which is dominated by the Democrats.
Real signs that state the obvious about the ways machines can hurt you. Inferiority complex anyone?
“Health and safety reasons” is a mantra recited when the dangers would sound pretty lame if spelt out.

Two cones are placed with precision to save passerbys from certain injury or death due to falling branches. Members of the public not seeing the vehicles or workers, nor hearing the chainsaws, could stand on those spots on the road, checking their watch or something, and be killed.
BTW: The cutting of this native New Zealand tree was part of the local Council’s “Urban Forest” project.
My twin 10 year old boys take extra care around a random street cone. 2010.
The popularity of the photoshopped image of a surveillance camera outside George Orwell’s house indicates a ready appreciation of the irony of the modern ‘safety’ society. But given the hundred-fold greater popularity of LOL Cat videos, the number of people who really care about the threat of government observation is small.
In this article Rothschild says people clearly don’t care about surveillance because they already put far more information about themselves online.
Perhaps though the perfect antidote to state survellience is publication. Openess about what we think, what we know, and how we feel, might be the ultimate defense against abuse of power by the State..
A boy is killed after logs “fall” on him when boys “jump” on top of stack. Pained media enquire “why wasn’t the area coned and roped off”.
Err - because mysteriously, cones only work on middle aged, middle class morons. Children operate on a different visual wavelength.
I’ve started this little ‘side blog’ for occasional analysis and poking at the health and safety culture and its obsession with cones. I’m talking about those ubiquitous plastic fluro reflective dunce’s caps which are used to make every minor, major and imagined hazard okay for us general public to encounter. My ambit is all “health and safety” measures, with a little bit of public order management thrown in for interest.
